Teaching about life to the little one isn't always easy. As they grow, there are so many lessons to be taught—having better interaction with others, learning to manage time and be organised in whatever they do. Life skills are the simplest way in which kids can be introduced to these concepts at an early age. Children need life skills education for self-care and sufficiency. And in the process they feel empowered, confident, can easily socialize and develop a healthy self-esteem.
Emotional Balance with Life Skills
When one knows how to balance their emotions, they can take wiser calls as compared to those who get carried away as per how they feel. Psychologists suggest that people with high EQ (Emotional Quotient) make better leaders than those with high IQ (intelligence Quotient). This means, the future leadership lies in being emotionally balanced and hence, teaching these values to kids is imperative.
Important life learning like self-awareness, self-motivation, and healthy communication form an important part of learning emotional balance through life skills. With life skills education, kids’ learn to form and maintain interpersonal relationships and know how to manage stress effectively. They are taught to be empathetic towards others and surroundings.
These skills comprise the actions that are socially acceptable and are beneficial to both. What are the ways in which kids can relate positively with people, that are appropriate to their age, are taught to kids through social skills.
Good social skills empower the child in making good choices about the kind of people to surround self with. Social skills also nurture one’s ability to positively interact with others in different situations and in ways that make the other feel respected and acknowledged.
With life skills, kids learn to be independent thinkers. Decision making, problem-solving, implementing a solution and structuring the information received, are the basis for independent thinking. They gain the ability to engage in reflective thinking, and rationally understanding the logical connection between ideas.
Through independent thinking, children identify, analyse, and solve problems systematically through reasoning. It also improves decision making as it inculcates the habit of considering a range of possibilities to arrive at a decision. Kids become foresighted, which is perhaps the most important part of critical thinking.
Let's make teaching life skills to children a daily activity and raise happy, curious and responsible adults.
